Black and White Drawings

Rhodo Morning

“Rhodo Morning  2008

Pastel on Paper  20inX30in

Based on a composition made from 3 or 4 photographs.

Battered on the Beach

“Battered on the Beach”     1985

Pencil and Watercolour on paper  8inX10in

The story here is transformation.  This painting was done in the early eighties.  I was kind of depressed at the time, so went for a walk on the beach, which was close to were I lived.  I picked up a few objects including the spoon and rock.

When I got home, I did this drawing which got me out of my funk.

It was going to be a series... "Bent on the Beach", "Blasted on the Beach", Bruised on the Beach" etc.

Birchbark Spin

“Birchbark Spin”    1982

Pencil on Paper         10inX10in

This is a fragment of the original.  Done on soft paper, the reproduction looks a bit like porridge.

Bowl on a Pine Shelf

“Illuminated Bowl”   1982

Pencil on Paper            12inX12in

Light is a favourite "subject" for artists.  I was working on the technical aspects of drawing a luminescent haze at the top of the rim.

Two Brushes

“Two brushes”  1982

Pencil on Card                      12inX14in

I was doing a series of tool drawings at the time I did this one.  I was very happy with the textures, the organic looking masking tape handle in particular.

Yesterdays Tech

“Yesterday's Tech”   1982

Pencil on Card                     12inX14in

More of the tool drawings.  There are others and when I find them, I'll post.
